Acqua di Gio Essenza opens on a bright, saline accord of water notes, bergamot, grapefruit and Calone — the same ozonic-marine signature that defines the original, but here it reads sharper and more citrus-forward. Collectors familiar with the 1996 release will recognise the aquatic skeleton immediately; the top is crisp and transparent rather than heavy.

The heart shifts aromatic, with basil, sage and jasmine sitting alongside general floral notes, before a base of pepper, cedar, vetiver, musk, ambergris, clary sage, amber and patchouli grounds the composition. The result is a fresh-spicy, aromatic woody aquatic — clean but with a dry, peppery-woody tail that keeps it from feeling purely cosmetic.
