Black Opium Nuit Blanche

Nuit Blanche is the 2014 flanker to Black Opium, and it shifts the original's dark coffee-vanilla register toward something brighter and more floral at the open. Pear and pink pepper sit over orange blossom at the top, giving a juicy, faintly peppery lift before the heart arrives. That heart is still recognisably Black Opium: coffee and jasmine, here joined by bitter almond and licorice, which add a nutty-sweet, anisic edge rather than more sugar. The base is vanilla, patchouli, cashmere wood and cedar — the vanilla dominant as the accord breakdown (vanilla 100%, coffee 87%, sweet 83%) makes plain.

Collectors should expect a lighter, more luminous reading of the Black Opium idea rather than a deeper one, despite the 'white night' name. It suits wearers who find the original too heavy for daytime or warm weather and want the coffee-vanilla signature with a floral, almond-sweetened opening. Those chasing maximum darkness should look to the original or the more intense editions. A discontinued flanker worth sampling before committing to a full bottle.
