Velvet Orchid Lumière

Velvet Orchid Lumière (2016) is Tom Ford's lighter, more luminous reading of the Velvet Orchid theme, opening with a boozy-sweet accord of rum, honey, mandarin orange and bergamot. The citrus keeps the honeyed rum from turning syrupy, giving the top a bright, almost liqueur-like sparkle before the florals take over.

The heart is a dense bouquet of black orchid, rose and jasmine, wrapped in a base of myrrh, vanilla and sandalwood. The result is a sweet, floral, honeyed composition with a powdery, woody finish — rich but more translucent than the original Velvet Orchid. Collectors who found the original too heavy will appreciate this brighter take.
