Beau de Jour is Tom Ford's 2019 entry into the classic aromatic fougère, and it reads as a deliberate, unfussy one. The opening is almost entirely lavender — both the note and an extract — so expect a dry, herbal, slightly bitter lavender rather than anything sweet or soapy. That lavender stays present as the heart opens onto oakmoss, rosemary, mint, geranium and basil: a green, spicy, faintly coniferous accord that gives the composition its barbershop character without tipping into nostalgia pastiche.

The base settles into patchouli and amber, earthy and quietly warm, holding the herbs in place rather than competing with them.
