Bain de Champagne (Royal Bain de Caron)

Royal Bain de Caron, originally Bain de Champagne, dates to 1923 and remains one of the house's most distinctive Oriental Florals. The opening pairs lilac with rose — a soft, slightly powdery floral lift rather than a bright citrus sparkle. From there the composition turns resinous: opoponax, benzoin and incense give a balsamic, church-like warmth that collectors of vintage amber scents will recognise immediately.

The base settles into vanilla, amber, sandalwood, musk and cedar, producing the powdery-amber drydown the accord breakdown confirms (amber dominant, with strong vanilla and balsamic support). It suits collectors who prefer soft, resinous orientals over sharp modern ambers, and wears well in cool weather or evening. Because the floral top is delicate, older bottles may show muted lilac — judge by the base. A quiet, contemplative fragrance rather than a statement piece.
